Certification Programs By Industry, For Industry

As part of the federally funded Workforce Recovery project and the update of the Emerit Certification Program, Tourism HR Canada welcomed two groups of dedicated industry professionals in Ottawa in early March 2023. Fifteen Hotel General Managers and 13 Directors of Housekeeping from across the country, representing a variety of establishments and workplace environments, gathered for three days to review and validate the exam questions, update the structured interview assessment, and set the passing requirements for their respective occupations.

Under the guidance of psychometricians, the participants were hard at work, meticulously reviewing and discussing each exam question for its accuracy and relevance to the practice, until consensus was reached. All worked diligently, with the end-goal of producing a high-quality certification exam that is valid, fair, and reliable.

This was a great opportunity for participants to get back to the basics and test their knowledge, exchange on best practices, and network with like-minded professionals. All participants agreed it was a challenging but productive and beneficial experience, recommending it highly to other tourism professionals.

The Tourism HR Canada team thanks all the participants for their time, hard work, and dedication to our industry.

In the coming months, we will continue with the update of the Emerit Certification Program and will be looking for:
