According to the Business Register, there were 206,031 tourism businesses in 2021, 5% of all businesses in Canada.

The most recent census labour data available (2016) shows there were 1.8 million Canadians working in the tourism sector, 10.6% of all employed individuals in Canada. (The equivalent data from the 2021 census will be released in late November 2022.)

Depending on the riding, tourism employees make up anywhere from 6.1% to 25% of the labour force, and the share of tourism businesses ranges from 2.3% to 14.3%.
