All regions of Canada have tourism job opportunities for you. Most tourism jobs are currently found in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia; however, all provinces are experiencing a labour shortage.

British Columbia
In a response to the province’s labour shortage, the Canadian government has published a list of occupations “under pressure”. This means there are not enough Canadians available to fill these jobs.- Management positions in tourism, including travel agencies, restaurants, nightclubs, catering and campgrounds
- Customer service directors
- Program leaders and instructors in recreation and sport (such as ski, snowboard and golf instructors)
- Food and beverage managers, supervisors, servers, wine servers, maîtres d’hôtel, hosts/hostesses, and kitchen helpers
- Retail sales associates
- Hotel front desk clerks and housekeeping room attendants
- Travel and tour guides
- Outdoor sport and recreational guides (such as whitewater rafting guides)
- Event coordinators and event managers
- Air pilots, deck officers in marine transport, railroad conductors and taxi drivers
Alberta
The Canadian government considers the following occupations “under pressure” in Alberta, including a variety of management positions.- Customer service directors
- Air pilots
- Program leaders and instructors in recreation and sport (such as ski, snowboard and golf instructors)
- Food and beverage supervisors, servers, wine servers, kitchen helpers
- Chefs, cooks and bakers
- Hotel front desk agents, guest services attendants, and housekeeping room attendants
- Retail sales associates and rental agents
- Travel and tour guides and directors
- Outdoor sport and recreation guides
- Operators and attendants for ski slopes and trails
Saskatchewan
The Recreation and Entertainment industry group is expected to have the highest employment growth per year.- Cooks and food and beverage servers are in the Top 10 “largest occupations”
- Accommodations and Food and Beverage Services will employ the most people
Manitoba
Like Saskatchewan, Recreation and Entertainment is expected to have the strongest employment growth.- Call centre workers are in high demand, as are cooks, food and beverage servers, and housekeeping room attendants
Ontario
Projections show that the main source of new job creation will continue to be the service industries. Sales and service occupations include retail salespersons, flight attendants, ticket agents, travel guides, bartenders, food and beverage servers, and housekeeping room attendants, among many others.- Over three-quarters of the projected new jobs in the economy will be in the areas of wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and food, transportation and warehousing, and information, culture and recreation
- Recreation and Entertainment will have the strongest growth
- Restaurant and food service managers will have some of the best prospects
Quebec
Employment opportunities in Accommodations, Food and Beverage Services, Recreation and Entertainment, and Travel Services are expected to grow at a faster rate than Quebec industries as a whole.- This growth is expected to create 6,200 new jobs per year
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador (Atlantic Provinces)
In the Atlantic Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, tourism employs over 110,000 people.- Travel Services and Recreation and Entertainment are the industry groups projected to have the most growth
