Industry Input Ensures Future-Focused Certification

Tourism HR Canada recently hosted three simultaneous meetings in Ottawa with Line Cooks, Front Desk Agents, and Housekeeping Room Attendants from across Canada. From November 20 to 23, these groups reviewed and validated the questions for certification exams for each of these occupations, as well as for the soon-to-be-launched micro-exams based on skills clusters such as service and professionalism.

A total of 28 participants took part in the meetings, contributing their knowledge and experience to ensure the resulting exams would represent the workers’ day-to-day reality, and be valid and fair for all qualified candidates.

The meetings were a success with over 1,100 questions reviewed, lots of sharing of best practices amongst participants, and great learning and networking opportunities.

The Tourism HR Canada team extends its thanks to all participants. This industry input is vital to ensuring the Emerit training and certification programs accurately reflect the demands on today’s—and tomorrow’s—tourism professionals.

Over the next few months, Tourism HR Canada will also be working on updating the Supervisor Certification Program as well as the Event Manager Certification Program. A full list of upcoming activities available for supervisors in any tourism occupation and for event managers can be found here.
