Tourism HR Canada is seeking participants for a three-hour virtual meeting to identify and review competencies for our Bartender National Occupational Standards. We take pride in our standards reflecting the latest industry input—and we can’t do this without your knowledge and expertise from the field!
Who are we looking for?
We are actively recruiting 10-15 bartenders from different regions across Canada. The more varied the group, the better! We invite bartenders with diverse experience and who work in a variety of sizes and types of environments.
What will be expected of you?
Participants are expected to contribute to an open discussion and provide information based on their own experiences. Your experience and insights are critical to ensuring that the tools to be developed meet the needs of the tourism industry.
The session will be conducted by a trained facilitator who will guide you through the process.
What and when is it?
A Competency Validation Session (virtual, three hours) on Wednesday, May 29, from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. Eastern Time.
This virtual session is an opportunity to discuss the definition and scope of the bartending occupation, identify competencies to be included in the Bartender National Occupational Standards (NOS), and review the content of recently developed bartending-specific competencies.
What are National Occupational Standards and competencies?
National Occupational Standards are industry-validated job profiles, made up of the competencies relevant to a particular tourism occupation. They represent the national benchmark for a specific job and summarize what an employee must have to be successful in the many different job situations they face on a daily basis.
A competency is a set of skills and related knowledge that allow an individual to successfully perform a task or an activity within a specific function of a job. Each competency includes several components: purpose, performance and abilities, and knowledge.
