Belong’s First Community Café Circle: Building an Inclusive Future in Tourism

Belong’s first Community Café Circle was a resounding success. Held during the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB) Summit in Saint John, the event brought together tourism operators from across the province, creating a unique platform to explore how inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) can shape the future of tourism.

Highlights of the event:

  • Passionate Participation: Thirty tourism operators from various industries gathered to engage in meaningful dialogue about creating a more welcoming and accessible sector.
  • Invaluable Insights: Our valued service providers—Ability NB, Avenue NB, Inclusion NB, Neil Squire Society, and CCRW—shared critical tools, resources, and strategies for tourism employers to enhance inclusivity in their workplaces. Experienced community leader Jamie Millar-Dixon also introduced the Four Pillars of Accessible and Inclusive Employment model to attending employers to equip them with hands-on human resources practices.
  • Collaborative Spirit: TIANB’s warm hospitality and dedication to championing IDEA values made the event a true success.

The Community Café Circle underscored the commitment of New Brunswick’s tourism leaders to embrace inclusivity as a core value. From exploring actionable steps to foster accessible workplaces to networking with service providers, attendees left inspired and equipped to drive positive change in their businesses and communities.

This event marks the beginning of many more meaningful conversations and collective actions to come under the Belong project. Further Community Café Circles will be held across Canada, along with regional conferences, webinars, and online workshops.

Together, we’re shaping a tourism sector that welcomes everyone and thrives on diversity. Let’s continue working toward an industry that’s inclusive, equitable, and accessible for all.
