Firsthand experience and insight are important in creating quality workplace resources and policies. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA), on behalf of Tourism HR Canada, is conducting focus group discussions with people who work in tourism (including accommodations, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, transportation, travel services, and event management) about risk and protective factors, employee accommodation needs, and policies on alcohol and other drug use and the workplace.
These stories will help CCSA develop resources that enable tourism businesses to draft or improve their resources, policies, and procedures on substance use, ultimately improving well-being and safety in the tourism industry.
CCSA understands that alcohol and other drug use in this industry can be a sensitive subject. Therefore, they would like to give employers and employees in tourism an opportunity to discuss their experiences and observations in virtual, anonymous, and confidential focus groups.
The focus groups will be taking place virtually in April 2025. Individuals who participate will receive $75.
For more information and to ask questions about participating in the discussion groups, please contact TourismStudy2025@ccsa.ca.
CCSA is a non-governmental organization that provides national leadership on substance use and advances solutions to address alcohol- and other drug-related harms. If you would like more information about their work, please visit the CCSA website.
