Tourism HR Canada is delighted to announce that the Propel Student Work Placement Program is launching its fifth year of supporting the growth of a vibrant and skilled tourism sector. The program plays a vital role in linking post-secondary students and tourism employers, building talent and encouraging the exploration of tourism career opportunities.
Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, Propel offers tourism employers access to wage subsidies to hire a domestic post-secondary student looking to complete a work-integrated learning placement as part of their studies. This includes co-op placements, internships, and other related opportunities that are required by the student’s program requirements.
To date, Propel has assisted hundreds of students from across Canada to build hands-on skills and apply their learning in placements ranging from culinary roles to hotel positions to marketing and business development posts. Employers have shared that the program offers a valuable way to connect with incoming talent, with many offering further work to students once their placements have ended.
Among Propel’s success stories: Mike LeClair, Marketing Specialist & Content Creator at Secret City, which offers unique escape rooms, games, and experiences at Toronto’s Casa Loma, and Kaitlyn Way, a fourth year student at Sheridan College who joined Mike’s team as an Experiential Design Intern.
