IDEAL Employer Mentorship Program
Advancing inclusion in Canada's tourism workforce.
Tourism HR Canada’s Belong program offers a suite of programming and resources to support tourism businesses across the country in being IDEAL employers: inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible, leading.
The IDEAL Employer Mentorship Program fosters peer-to-peer mentorship that supports the advancement of workforce inclusion for people with disabilities across Canada’s tourism sector.
How it works
Mentors and mentees complete a brief intake form.
The program team will recommend a mentoring pair guided by such factors as industry, business size, experience, and more.
Mentoring pairs will work with the program team to establish the style and frequency of engagements.
Mentoring pairs begin their mentorship journey with the help of engagement guidelines. A minimum three-month commitment is recommended.
The program team will check-in with mentoring pairs to confirm meaningful progress and relationship development.
Mentorship engagement options include:
One-on-one meetings and site visits
Virtual meetings
Group discussions
A hybrid approach combining these options
Everyone learns differently, so it's important to use an engagement style that works for both the mentor and the mentee.
Key Characteristics
IDEAL Mentor
- Successfully implemented inclusive hiring and retention practices
- Willing to share their knowledge, experiences, success stories, and lessons learned
- Available, flexible, and committed to following through with the mentee
IDEAL Mentee
- Open-minded, eager/willing to learn
- Need for/committed to improving hiring and retention practices to increase workforce inclusion of people with disabilities
- Flexible, engaged, and open to communicate
