Tourism HR Canada has been working closely with a consortium of other workforce development councils to generate cross-sector labour market insights. The initiative, led by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium, saw a national survey fielded across fourteen sectors to collect foundational intelligence from businesses. The survey provides a ground-up perspective on labour issues that parallels the surveys that Statistics Canada conducts.
The high-level findings are intended to show economy-wide pressure points to inform policy recommendations around strategies to meet workforce challenges. While there is not much in the way of granular detail, the overall findings are illuminating in the context of ongoing trade tensions and geopolitical instability.
The final report from this survey is available here, as is an interactive dashboard from the survey findings. The data in the dashboard can be sorted by industry and by response, allowing the user to explore the findings in quite a nuanced way.
This short survey will be repeated in November, and may become a regular check-in on labour conditions in Canada. (Note that this is not the same project as our National Workforce Survey, which will be much more in-depth and focuses solely on the tourism sector.)
