SMART+ Accreditation Program

SMART+ Advances Excellence in Tourism Education
At Tourism HR Canada, we’re committed to supporting top-quality tourism-related education. That’s why we developed the SMART+ Accreditation Program—a flexible, inclusive approach that incorporates the real needs of today’s program providers, students, and employers.
Accreditation is a voluntary process where educational or credentialling programs are reviewed by a third party to determine whether they meet a set of established criteria. Programs that meet or exceed the criteria receive public recognition that confirms their quality, relevancy, and adaptability.
Our goal is to recognize high-quality tourism-related programs and give institutions clear, practical benchmarks they can use to strengthen and grow their offerings. Whether you’re looking to improve outcomes, align with best practices, or showcase your program’s excellence, SMART+ offers a structured, supportive pathway.
Ready to Get SMART+ Accredited?
Here’s how it works:
- Applicants review the SMART+ Accreditation Self-Evaluation Checklist and collect the documentation and evidence needed to support their application.
- Applicants complete the online application process using our SMART+ portal.
- Trained third-party evaluators review the application, including supporting documentation, and ensure the process is fair, consistent, and rooted in evidence.
- Programs that meet the criteria earn SMART+ Accreditation—a mark of quality that’s recognized nationwide.
- Programs that wish to maintain their SMART+ Accreditation designation must renew every three years.

Accreditation Self-Evaluation Checklist
Review the Checklist. If your program meets the minimum requirements, you’re ready to apply.
